Hello Hurricane
Even though it may be life threatening and detrimental, I'm
always fascinated with natural disasters. It's one of those rare moments in the
world where vast majorities of people go through the same circumstance and as a
result of this common denominator, unity is built, selflessness is born, we are
all working toward the same goal. it's a tiny glimpse of how the world should
be, not devastated by disasters, but unified towards better and greater things.
I just saw some pictures of New York City currently, where
streets are empty, times square is quiet.
Everyone there is in survival mode, finding shelter and warmth, everyone
has the same thing happening to them. If you think about it, that’s a really neat
thing. How often do you and millions of people have the same thing happening in
life at the same time?
When I was younger (and I guess even now) whenever there is
a huge storm coming I secretly hope the power goes out. My family and I would gather in our
living room with candles lit and sit together and talk. In a world weaved with
so much technology we often take for granted the times that we actually get to
be together without distraction (which is more and more rare). The tv is not
on, cell phones are not getting text messages, you can’t check your facebook to
see how everyone else is dealing with the power outage, you are forced to do
something that does not require electricity. When was the last time you spent
time with someone when neither of you looked at your phones, sent a text or got
call? It’s honestly very hard for me to find one of those moments. Now having
the power go out, as I live alone might be a different story… but I do have
neighbors!
I would also like to add that this storm might be the perfect test for our Presidential candidates, wouldn't you agree? I'm sure people will keep a close eye on how each candidate reacts to this storm it might be very telling of how they will be in office during a crisis. A week away from voting... the frankenstorm? nah... the perfect storm!
